·         Talks about something that happened before. It happened and it finished.
·         Talks about something that was happening before, but for a period of time.
Structure
Regular verbs + -ed
Walk - walked, help - helped.
Irregular Verbs
Eat - ate,  begin - began
was or were + verb-ing
